Students will learn how to draw gestures, short poses, long poses, proportions and tips how to draw from life. We’ll cover most common poses and mistakes, as well as skeleton, muscles, tension and movements from artists’ perspective. Only what you need to know with a plenty of practice and reference materials.

Session 1: Material use, values, cold and warm colours for life drawing. Lines, energy, movement. Shading rules, Gesture drawing, blind contour drawing, use of space. Basic forms (cube, cylinder, sphere, cone)

Session 2: Shading rules, smudging vs. cross-hatching, cast shadows, air perspective and complex shapes. Skeleton, poses and basic forms. General shape vs. individual shape” “Complex forms, light and shadows, air and linear perspective. 1-2 poses split into basic forms

Session 3: Anatomy of a torso, common poses and tips, 2-3 poses with shading.

Sessions 4: Anatomy of arms and upper back, common poses and tips, 2-3 poses with shading

Session 5: Anatomy of legs and lower back, common poses and tips. 2-3 poses with shading

Session 6: Hands and feet: tips and step-by-step approach 4-5 poses for hands and feet with shading

Session 7: Full pose in monochrom 1 pose

Session 8: Full pose in colours 1 pose

Graphite pencils: HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B
Gum and art erasers
Charcoal, sanguine, sepia, white chalks
Kraft paper and drawing paper (approx. A2 size)
Soft pastel
