The Vancouver Visual Art Foundation invites you to get creative with our online Art Class series.
MAKING WAVES
The Great Wave off Kanagawa (1829-1833) is a woodblock print by the Japanese artist Hokusai. It is Hokusai’s most famous work and is often considered the most recognizable work of Japanese art in the world.
Let’s dive into Japanese culture with Elena Nahum Leroy as she guides you through this beautiful landscape in watercolours and pen. No experience necessary!

MATERIALS:
Students must provide their own supplies:
– Watercolours [Ultramarine Blue (or Cobalt Blue), Phthalo Blue (or Prussian Blue or Cyan), Yellow or Golden Ochre, Burnt Sienna and Payne’s Gray or any Black]
– White gouache or acrylic
– Flat or Round soft brushes size 3 and 6.
Black gel pen or fine marker
Paper (90 lbs +)
HB pencil and eraser
Water and paper towels
