Topics covered: pigments and colours, paint ingredients, paint choice for different techniques, colour wheel: myths and reality, saturation and brightness, cold and warm colours, tones, ways to show perspective with colour, special recipes for mixing colours.
Session 1. Paints, pigments, mediums, transparency, lightfastness and how all these affects mixing colours. Mixing vs. glazing. Getting known your supplies from scientific and artistic points of view. Working on basic still life to practice colours, forms and layering
Session 2. Spectrum and primary colours: myths and reality. Complimentary colours and their use. Warm and cold colours. Saturation. Three tones. Practicing spectrum and how to get RIGHT secondary colours. Finishing a still life with glazing, warm and cold colours. Practicing 3-tone rule.
Sessions 3-4. Finding colour balance. Mixing colours and painting tips: greens, yellows, blues, reds, whites, flesh tones, etc. – how to achieve colour balance and natural look.
Forest: working with greens. Colours and perspective.
Ocean: working with blues. Colours and perspective.
Flowers: working with reds and yellows.
Face or body: practicing skin tones.
