The Great Wave off Kanagawa (1829-1833) is a woodblock print by the Japanese artist Hokusai. It is Hokusai’s most famous work and is often considered the most recognizable work of Japanese art in the world.

Let’s dive into Japan culture and paint this beautiful landscape in watercolours and pen.

Art supplies needed:

  1. Watercolours (Ultramarine Blue (or Cobalt Blue), Phthalo Blue (or Prussian Blue or Cyan), Yellow or Golden Ochre, Burnt Sienna and Payne’s Gray or any Black)
  2. White gouache or acrylic
  3. Flat or Round soft brushes size 3 and 6.
  4. Black gel pen or fine marker
  5. Paper (90 lbs +)
  6. HB pencil and eraser
